Wimbledon Introduces Video Review System This Season.

The Championships tennis court with replay technology

The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in implementing replay technology.

Replay systems are set to arrive at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.

Athletes are granted the option to question specific decisions made by the official, echoing the protocol currently in use at both the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.

This technology is slated for use on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the tournament and on the other four show courts when they are hosting singles contests.

This move follows just a season following the All England Club implemented electronic line calling, which brought an end to the longstanding tradition of line officials.

Reviewable Decisions

Competitors will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the umpire to re-examine specific decisions, including:

  • If a tennis ball has double-bounced.
  • Whether a shot made contact with an opponent's racquet or body during play.
  • Possible hindrance end of a point.

Notably, there is an unlimited number on the number of reviews a competitor can request.

A Recent Example

A recent incident took place in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.

Draper admitted it was a difficult situation for the official, but believed his opponent had "played the rules effectively."

Official Aurelie Tourte watched a replay and determined the player was guilty of interference, awarding the point to Medvedev.

Growing Trend

This technology aren't new for Grand Slams. It was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open this year.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have video reviews implemented at every one of its tournaments.

Additional Innovations

A further innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the introduction of visual indicators on displays to complement the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.

This addresses situations where the crowd have sometimes been unsure if a ball was in or out.

In other news, with precisely a century of days remaining until the start of the tournament, organizers have further revealed an increase in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
